“Journey To Healing”: Charlie Silver and Lamar Whidbee
Join us for “Journey To Healing,” an exhibit through the month of May, featuring artists Charlie Silver and Lamar Whidbee. Charlie Silver served in 1968–1973, with an impressive 698 missions as a helicopter pilot for the Marine Corps in Vietnam. In 2017 when Charlie retired, symptoms of PTSD began to affect his life. Upon meeting Lamar Whidbee, an accomplished therapist and artist in Knightdale, a friendship and collaboration began. Using his creative talent, Lamar began mentoring Charlie on his own artistic path. The work by these two artists highlight the importance of creating. Filtering life through art can be a therapeutic vessel to process the world and ourselves. With this exhibit, we hope to highlight the importance of art in mental health, and to honor Veterans in their journey of healing.
